Level up from Teacher to Dungeon Master. Your students are already waiting at the table.

I had a moment this week where I had to ask myself: Is this real life?

My students have been asking if they can leave class a few minutes early, not to skip the cafeteria line, but to make it to their D&D club. My 12-year-old is suddenly too busy drawing character sketches to play Roblox. And then, the ultimate plot twist: students just asked if they could have more D&D activities—specifically, writing a narrative of their campaign.

Is this real?

In my years as an ESL and special education teacher, I’ve realized a simple truth: Students don’t struggle with English, they struggle with boredom. When you replace a textbook with a character sheet, the "affective filter" drops. The language is no longer the barrier; it’s the tool they need to survive the adventure. Authentic communication takes over because they actually care about the outcome.

In the past, we’ve experienced this spike in motivation through our LESs, such as Write Your Own Graphic Novel, or Otaku’s Quest: Become a Manga and Anime Expert! So, going with the idea of designing units that match students’ interests, our latest LES is all about The ABC’s of RPGs: A Dungeons and Dragons-inspired LES!

What’s in it?

The ABC’s of RPGs is a 13+ period LES designed to bridge the gap between student interests and rigorous ESL standards. This comprehensive units includes a plethora of activities inspired by Dungeons and Dragons, that will motivate your most reluctant learners.

Whether you are a DnD expert or a novice, our step-by-step teacher guide will support your throughout the way.

The LES is built so you don't have to spend your weekends planning—you just have to show up and lead the adventure. Become the teacher your classroom needs, and the Dungeon Master they want!

When you join the webinar, you get the full "Key-in-Hand" bundle:

Phase 1: The Hook & World Building - Every student is a hero in the making. Give them the map.

The "Stranger Things" Analysis: A visual-first entry point using pop culture to activate prior knowledge and spark immediate C1 oral interaction.

  • Gamified Vocab Immersion: Custom Kahoot! and Blooket sessions designed to teach "D&D Speak" (Ability scores, modifiers, classes) without the dry dictionary definitions.

  • "D&D for the First Time" Video Lab: A scaffolded C2 listening activity that breaks down the mechanics of roleplay into digestible chunks.

Phase 2: Character Alchemy (The "Roblox-Killer")

TitanCraft 3D Modeling: Students use professional 3D design tools to build their physical hero—this is where the "drawing character sketches" magic happens.

  • Station-Based Character Creation: A collaborative rotation where students learn the basics of D&D: Class, Race, and Ability Scores, negotiating their roles within a balanced party (C1).

  • AI Image creation of their character: An optional activity for teacher who want to teach students prompt engineering. Students create an image using AI tools that are allowed in schools. They create an image of their character by writing a detail description.

Phase 3: The Language of the Quest

  • The D20 Speaking Games: A series of mini-challenges where a roll of the dice dictates the direction of the conversation. Students build an imaginative world together.

  • Past vs. Present Tense Workshop: A grammar-in-context lesson specifically designed for backstory writing (Past for origins, Present for current abilities).

  • The Hero’s Journey Writing Process: A fully scaffolded C3 drafting process where students turn their 3D models and character sheets into epic written backstories.

Phase 4: The Grand Finale

The Great Dungeon Crawl: A 75-minute, whole-class tabletop adventure. You lead the story, and the students use their character sheets and dice to survive. This serves as your final C1 oral evaluation.

  • Narrated Video Projects: Using technology, students present their characters in a visual video project using their images and a recording of them talking about their character.

  • The ultimate 'Cheat Code' for C1, C2, and C3, with "Key-in-Hand" Evaluation Rubrics: Professional, ready-to-print rubrics for C1 (Oral Interaction), C2 (Reinvestment), and C3 (Writing) so you can grade the fun with pedagogical rigor.

You don't need to be a D&D expert to run this. We’ve designed every step to be inclusive and accessible for both you and your students.
