The ABC’s of RPGs is a comprehensive, 13-period Learning Evaluation Situation (LES) designed to bring the magic of role-playing games into the modern classroom.
This isn't just a game; it's a research-backed, inclusive pedagogical tool that transforms students from passive learners into heroic storytellers.
What’s Inside the Key-in-Hand Unit?
This project provides 13 detailed 75-minute lesson plans that guide your students through the entire creative process:
The Hook: Spark immediate interest with a Stranger Things themed introduction and vocabulary-building games.
Character Creation Stations: Students rotate through hands-on stations to build their "hero," learning about classes, abilities, and gear through collaborative discussion.
Tech-Forward Learning: Includes integration with TitanCraft for 3D character design and AI tools (like Copilot or Gemini) to help students navigate complex vocabulary. (*Adaptable to be used without the use of AI or Tech)
Narrative Writing: A scaffolded approach to writing backstories using a "Past vs. Present" grammar focus to ensure students produce high-quality written texts.
The Finale: A whole-class "Dungeon Crawl" where students use their created characters to solve problems and roleplay in English.
Curriculum Alignment (Quebec ESL Framework)
This LES is meticulously designed to evaluate all three ESL competencies:
C1 (Oral Interaction): Continuous spontaneous speaking through roleplay, D20 dice games, and team-based decision-making.
C2 (Reinvests Understanding of Texts): Reading comprehension activities focused on D&D mechanics and backstory structures.
C3 (Writes Texts): A complete writing process (brainstorming, drafting, peer-feedback) for character backstories.
